Central Catholic 36, Norwayne 35
CRESTON — Central Catholic gambled and won.
Quarterback Jack Talkington rushed for two touchdowns and scored on a two-point conversion run with 32 seconds remaining Friday night to lead the Crusaders to their first win of the season.
Central drove downfield after Norwayne took a 35-28 lead with 1:51 left. Dan Boron’s 4-yard touchdown run pushed the Crusaders to within a point. They chose to go for the win and got it on Talkington’s two point streak.
Talkington rushed for a game-high 163 yards. He also threw for 140 yards.
Alex Anderson rushed for two touchdowns for Central.
Mansfield Senior 42, North Canton Hoover 9
MANSFIELD — The Tygers scored 21 points in the final 4:44 to pull away from Hoover at Arlin Field.
Jamir Petty scored on a 3-yard run with 4:44 left to push Mansfield’s lead to 28-9. Less than two minutes later, Keontez Bradley returned a 94-yard touchdown punt.
Petty added another touchdown on a 5-yard run with 1:32 left.
Hoover (1-1) finished with 197 yards of offense. Luke Roach rushed for 77 yards on 18 carries. Carson Dyrlund completed 5 of 10 passes for 77 yards.
The Vikings’ only TD came on Luke Griguolo’s 2-yard run that put Hoover up 6-0 with 3:18 remaining in the first half.
Mansfield responded with Duke Reese’s 47-yard touchdown pass to Amarr Davis to take a 7-6 halftime lead.
Reese completed 9 of 14 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns. Davis finished with 61 yards on four receptions.
Bradley added a 1-yard rushing TD to go with his punt return for the Tygers (2-0).
Mayfield 48, Jackson 10
MAYFIELD — The host Wildcats scored 34 points in the second quarter to beat Jackson.
Mayfield QB Rocco Monastero threw four TD passes, all in the second quarter, and completed 15 of 18 passes overall for 269 yards and no interceptions. He added a rushing TD.
Three of his touchdown passes went to Nick Biega, who finished with 117 yards on four catches for Mayfield (2-0).
Jackson (1-1) completed one of his 16 passing attempts on the night, gained 155 offensive yards and finished with six first downs overall. The Polar Bears’ only touchdown came on Luke Johnson’s 68-yard run late in the first quarter.
Green 51, North Olmsted 41
GREEN — In a wild game with 1,032 yards of offense and 53 first downs, the Bulldogs outlasted visiting North Olmsted to win at Memorial Stadium.
Green quarterback Robby Klockner completed 26 of 50 passes for 444 yards, five touchdowns and an interception. He also added a rushing TD. Four of his touchdown passes went to Zach Baglia, who finished with 13 receptions for 277 yards.
Antonio Martin added a 14-yard touchdown reception and a 4-yard rushing score for Green (2-0), who trailed 27-14 midway through the second quarter and 41-40 early in the quarter.
Klockner found Baglia for a 36-yard touchdown pass with 10:06 remaining to put Green back in the lead. Jarrett Taylor added a two-point conversion catch from Klockner to make it 48-41.
Eli Noirot kicked a 31-yard field goal with 46 seconds remaining to close out the scoring and help Green reach 50 points for the second week in a row. The Bulldogs beat Ellet in their season opener 55-8.
North Olmsted’s Jared Kelley rushed for 209 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries. He had 54 yards and a TD on two receptions. North Olmsted gained 517 yards of offense to Green’s 515.
Poland 21, Louisville 10
LOUISVILLE — Poland scored 21 unanswered points as Louisville lost at home.
Dominic Pagano rushed for two touchdowns for Poland. Pagano carried 22 times for 126 yards.
Jacob Davide rushed 15 yards for Louisville’s only touchdown in the first quarter.
Louisville was plagued by turnovers. The Leopards lost five fumbles and threw an interception.
No Justice 40, Tusky Valley 7
brewer — Brody Pumneo rushed for two touchdowns as the Falcons easily improved to 2-0 with a win in their home opener.
Wide receivers Gavin Conley and Luke Yoder each scored touchdowns and quarterback Carson Colucci ran for a touchdown for Fairless. Defensive back Landyn Seal produced points for the Falcon defense with an interception return for a TD.
Colucci completed 13 of 16 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown.
Sandy Valley 34, Manchester 15
FRANKLIN TWP. — Drew Graybill connected with Lukas Gilland for a pair of touchdown passes as the Cardinals won their first game.
Playing for injured starter Nick Petro for the second straight week, Graybill threw a 30-yard TD pass to Gilland in the first quarter and an 80-yard TD pass to Gilland in the second quarter.
Chad Davis had three TD runs for Sandy Valley. His 80-yard run late in the first half gave the Cardinals a 21-9 halftime lead.

DALTON — The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 with an easy win over the Mustangs. No details were available.
States 55, East Canton 21
HANOVERTON — Luke Courtney threw for 357 yards and five touchdowns as United avenged last year’s loss to the Hornets.
Courtney threw TD passes of 23, 40 and 61 yards to Grant Knight in the first half. The Golden Eagles led 35-7 at halftime. Knight caught four TD passes and finished with nine receptions for 171 yards.
East Canton quarterback Brennan Betz scored on a 34-yard run and threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Jake McCullough. Dylan Stoffer caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Owen McCroskey in the fourth quarter for the Hornets.
Chanie Stubblefield was East Canton’s leading receiver with six receptions for 102 yards.
Malvern 21, Conotton Valley 20
BOWERSTON – Freshman Rocco Marinucci’s interception turned down Conotton Valley’s last-minute drive and sealed a 2-0 start to the season for Malvern.
Malvern’s KJ Wafler caught a 59-yard touchdown pass from Dylan Phillips in the first quarter and returned a 75-yard punt for a second-quarter touchdown that proved to be the difference for the visiting Hornets.
Phillips, who replaced starting quarterback Jared Witherow after injuring his wrist, finished with a combined 122 passing and rushing yards. Drake Hutchison added 56 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries for Malvern.
Conotton Valley’s Evan Rice rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns on 39 carries.
Gaige Galligher’s 5-yard touchdown reception from Zach Putnam in the third quarter pulled the Rockets (0-2) within 21-20. They went for the two-point conversion and their pass missed.
Smithville 63, Saint Thomas Aquinas 0
LOUISVILLE — The Knights lost their first game at home to Smithville. No details were available. Aquinas has now lost two games this season by a combined score of 112-6 and has lost 10 straight since his last game of 2020.
West Branch 43, Woodridge 13
BELOIT — Tim Cooper earned his first victory as a head coach at West Branch, as his team rushed for 466 yards in a convincing win at home. West Branch jumped out to a 22-0 lead and never looked back.
Dru DeShields threw for 275 yards and three touchdowns (on 16-of-28 passing), while rushing for 69 yards and a TD on nine carries. He also scored on a pair of 2-point conversions.
Boston Mulinix rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries, highlighting a 51-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
Michael Kanagy caught six balls for 96 yards and a TD to lead West Branch in receptions. He also intercepted a pass.
Anthony Perry gained 95 receiving yards on three receptions, including a 75-yarder in the third quarter.
Thomas Egli led the West Branch defense with nine total tackles, including three for losses. He also intercepted a pass.
