Mojang will soon release the Minecraft 1.20 update. This new installment of the old sandbox title will feature new mobs, blocks, elements, biomes, and structures. Swedish game developers have a unique method of testing new features by posting lots of screenshots and preview builds for feedback from the player base.
You can wait for the update to drop on June 7. If you can’t wait and want to try all the new features of the Minecraft 1.20 update, you can easily do so now. Here’s a step-by-step method to download the latest beta and see all the new additions. Since the update is in its pre-release phase, it will almost feel like playing the official update.
Steps to play the Minecraft 1.20 update before its release
1) Download the latest preview version of the game’s official launcher
First, you need to head over to the official game launcher and open the version list next to the green play button. Here you will find various versions of games that are installed or can be downloaded.
Scroll up and down to find the ‘Latest Snapshot’ version, under which it should write ‘1.20 pre-‘. The number after ‘pre-‘ must be seven or more, whenever Mojang releases another pre-release version. Also, ‘release candidate’ could also be written under ‘Latest Snapshot’, as Mojang might soon push the update to the release candidate phase in the next few days.
Whatever the version, you can select the ‘Latest Snapshot’ version and press play.
2) Create a new world and explore new features
Although the preview will show everything new in the update, you should remember that it is a beta version. Therefore, you should never directly open your existing worlds from previous versions in preview. This could permanently damage your game files.
Always create a whole new world in any beta to explore all the new features of an update. Once the new world is created, players can simply explore the structures for new blocks, items, and mobs. The new Cherry Grove biome can also be found by exploring the Overworld realm long enough.
Of course, all of these additions can be instantly experienced if you’re in creative mode and can access the cheats.
Note: This article does not claim that users will be able to play the official Minecraft 1.20 update before it is released. It just explains how you can experience all the features that come with the official update by playing the preview version. Although it is a nearly complete version of the update, it is by no means the latest.
