PCB boss Najam Sethi to be stripped of chair after Asia Cup row

Najam Sethi is in the last two weeks of his term as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief. He is scheduled to be challenged by one of his old rivals and former board chairman Zaka Ashraf, according to ESPN Cricinfo reports.

Sethi reportedly met Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif at his residence in Islamabad on June 7 to discuss PCB’s progress under his tenure. On the other hand, Ashraf met with the Federal Minister of Interprovincial Coordination (IPC), Ehsan ur Rehman Mazari. He confirmed that Zaka was being nominated to head the PCB.

Najam Sethi will face stiff competition from Zaka Ashraf in PCB elections

Both Najam Sethi and Zaka Ashraf have long political histories and both were involved in a legal battle over the position in 2013 and 2014.

“When this government was formed, it was decided that the political parties [in the alliance] Those who have the respective ministries will have a voice and vote in the appointment of the man for the respective job. Mazari said Wednesday.

“Therefore, IPC is with PPP, so we will have our man [in the PCB]. Also, Sethi’s nomination [for the full term] it’s a conflict of interest as he heads the management committee in charge of running the elections, but they are becoming part of the process and getting elected.”

Sethi has been in charge since Ramiz Raja was ousted as PCB chairman last year. Along with this, the 2019 board constitution was also removed. Sethi’s committee was initially given 120 days to bring back the 2014 version of the PCB constitution and reinstate the regional and service structure in domestic cricket. The committee was also mandated to form a board of governors and elect a president.

Over the last four months, Sethi has been active behind the recruitment of international coaches for the Pakistan cricket team, starting with the selection of Mickey Arthur as part-time team manager.
