Sony is expected to announce the free PS Plus games for September 2022 soon, but this reveal may be accompanied by something special.
As August 2022 draws to a close, many PSPlus Fans are eager to see what comes next. Sony is expected to reveal the free PS Plus games for September 2022 on August 31, launch them on September 6, and follow up with Extra and Premium games in the weeks after.
However, according to other rumours, the upcoming PS Plus announcement may not be just a simple reveal of new games. September is usually a big month for PlayStation, and you’d be wise to build on the hype around PS Plus with the hype around another reveal.
PS Plus announcement, PlayStation Showcase rumors
Sony has hosted a PlayStation Showcase every September for the past few years, and recent rumors suggest that the next PS Showcase will take place on September 8. Sony’s announcements are hard to track, but there’s little reason why this Showcase couldn’t be announced on August 31st. Game States are usually announced at the beginning of the week they take place, and this also happens once with a PS Showcase. At the same time, some State of Plays and at least one PS Showcase were announced a week in advance. With this rumored PS Showcase probably showing god of war ragnaroka week of publicity would be good for the reveal.
In the past, Sony has held back, delayed, or changed its typical PS Plus reveal pattern to coincide with something else. PS Plus announcements have been delayed to appear at a larger event earlier, as an example. That’s unlikely to happen here, as the PS Plus September 2022 release date is 2 days before the rumored event, but the launch of a PS blog with a focus on September 2022 free games will possibly another ad or two (like you did with the Yakuza games for PS Plus), and a final line that says “Oh hey, join us on September 8 for our PS Showcase” would be incredibly attractive.
I’d keep a lot of focus on Sony over the next week leading up to the event, and it’s also noteworthy that Sony likes to stand out. This is one of the reasons it pulled out of E3 even before the pandemic started. There are many events scheduled for September, including the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase on September 9 and Ubisoft Forward on September 10, and if the PlayStation Showcase does take place on September 8, this would be a good way to keep fans excited and focused on the event. It would stand out and outshine the rest if it revealed all of its major announcements for September in one package, so while it remains to be seen, it stands to reason that August 31st would be a big day for PS Plus subscribers.
