ancient indian legend sunil gavaskar feels experienced batsman Ajinkya Rahane will have a significant effect on Team India in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia, which begins on June 7 at The Oval.
One of the players who will be instrumental in the Indian team’s success in the WTC final is Ajinkya Rahane. After being absent for over a year, the experienced batsman returned to the Test team by working hard in domestic cricket and coming back after a fine performance in the IPL.

Rahane put in some impressive performances for Mumbai at the Ranji Trophy, and also had a stellar season with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the 2023 IPL. Injuries to Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul suggest Rahane could be the favorite to take fifth place in the WTC final.

Here’s what Sunil Gavaskar had to say about Rahane while speaking exclusively to Star Sports on “Follow the Blues”: “He has a lot of experience from playing in England, from scoring runs in England. So, yes, I think it will be crucial in number 5.

“And yes, I think he has a point to prove, I still feel he has a lot of cricket left, and this is a wonderful opportunity for him. I hope he can seize this opportunity with all the experience he has and make a place for him back in the Indian team.” added Sunil Gavaskar.

Team India may look a bit raw in the WTC final” – Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar, a former Indian great, believes that because most of the team’s players have just finished playing T20 cricket in the IPL, the India team may seem a bit underprepared for the WTC final. Gavaskar believes that apart from Cheteshwar Pujara, who has been playing County Cricket, others will need to adjust to the longer format.
“The biggest test will be the fact that almost everyone will be coming out of the T20 format, and Test cricket is a longer format. So I think that’s going to be the big challenge. They only have Cheteshwar Pujara, who has been playing in the English County Championship, so he will be the only one to have played the longer format in these conditions, so that will be the big challenge for them.” Sunil Gavaskar on Star Sports on “Follow the Blues”, he added.
